Do I have to be licensed?

I moved to Vegas from GA to watch my grandkids.  They're almost 5, almost 2, and 10 months.  I babysit them while their mommy and daddy work.  But I need to watch some more kids because i need the income (badly!).  How do I find out how many children I can legally watch without being licensed?  I'm not having any luck finding out that info online.

When I read all the rules & regulations of licensed day cares, it all seems so overwhelming.  And at my age (59), I'm not so sure I want to go thru all that.  But I've been watching my grandkids for nearly 1 1/2 years now.  I think it'd also be good for them to have some playmates (besides each other).  I want to do things legally, so I'm hoping I can maybe watch a couple more kids.

Anyone know?

Most states allow you to have up to 5 kids without being licensed, but some states require you to be registered if you are not going to be licensed.

So you probably would only be able to watch 2 more children depending on your states regulations, becoming licensed is really not that hard look into that also.

A misconception about being licensed is you do not have to follow regulations. Well that is not entirely true, you still have to follow health regulations and some guidelines mostly not being licensed means you are not going to be inspected every so often to see if you are following state regulations, but that doesn't mean if you won't ever, if some one calls and makes a complaint they will come out and inspect.

Contact the following to see whether or not you need to be licensed:

Regulations vary from state to state, but after briefly reading Georgia state regulations, it looks like you have to be at least registered with the state, if you want more than 6 kids you need to be licensed and then you are considered a group home.

Call your state's licensing agency to be sure.

with 5 or less kids you dnt have to be licensed, but with 6 children or more you have to be, and you have to have a center for them
