Dear Mary,
That is great that you are wanting to open a home daycare, which is a very rewarding job if you have children of your own still at home.  The first thing you should do is contact your local licensing office and state you would like to become a registered home daycare provider. This way they help you by providing your name to people who are looking for daycare and knowing you are registered with your state is an A+.  They will also help you and guide on all the procedures you need to follow, for example, safety proofing your home, taking a CPR/first aid course and so on. Start there!  I ran a home daycare for 8 years in mainly Iowa and it was such fun. I really miss out but am now teaching pre-k, but now have to leave home. The best of luck!
